A week ago, last Saturday, my new friend Janetha from Meals and Moves hosted a Blogger Potluck at Liberty Park in Salt Lake. It was so much fun and so nice to meet so many bloggers (and their husbands, pups, and kids) in person!
Here is Janetha getting us all started with introductions, etc. Everyone brought a dish to share and I can't even begin to tell you how much good stuff we had! Oh my! Delish!
The Simply Bar generously gave Janetha a supply of bars for us to sample too!
See the yumminess that was on my plate!
We were able to sit back chat and get to know everyone better! So much fun!
Monday marked the second month of GPP for Carl and Tyson, and the fourth month for me. I convinced Carl and Tyson to try the GPP kool-aid, and it worked. They are both hooked! Carl is down 15 lbs and Tyson is down 10 lbs. Crazy! Tyson is a beast when it comes to lifting the heavy weight (just finished playing 4 years of college football, so he should be a beast, right?)
Hey all, I am taking part in Janetha'sThree Tip Thursday Series on her FABULOUS blog Meals and Moves Go on over and take a look at her blog. Super inspiring! Lots of great tips on fitness, food and fun! Love that girl!
So, it's Friday! TGIF! It's hard having a holiday in the middle of the week! Hard to get back to the grind!
I was able to cross another item off my Summer Bucket List 2012 on Tuesday night. One of our local golf courses always has a big fireworks display the night before the 4th. I think they do this so they don't have to compete with all the other firework shows in the city. It's always a hit and pretty much the whole community seems to be there! We usually do this every year, and the fireworks never disappoint!
We began the night having dinner with a few of my favorite University of Utah Gymnasts, their families, and other friends. Such a fun night. We had a great BBQ, and Tyson and some of his friends even made an appearance.
On our way down to the golf course – great sunset!
We really did have a great time!
Did you get a chance to see any fireworks over the holiday?
One of my favorite appetizers to make! So good and so easy!
I made these for the Blogger Potluck that Janetha hosted over the weekend (more on that Thursday!).
I buy the Buitoni Cheese Tortellini at the grocery store, and pair it with fresh mozzarella, basil and cherry tomatoes.
I alternate the ingredients on skewers and drizzle with a basil vinaigrette.
I don't have an exact recipe for the basil vinaigrette. I just combine equal parts white or balsamic vinegar, along with olive oil. I add in chopped basil and salt and pepper to taste.
I hope you all had a great weekend! It was super hot here in Utah, but we did have a fun weekend!
As I always mention, my weekend starts at the end of the work day on Friday. This was still the case, but my work summer party was directly after work on Friday.
Our party was held at Murray Park and began with a dinner catered by Meier's Catering and dessert from Cold Stone. So delish! There were some fun activities for the younger kids, along with the usual playground equipment. We just sat and visited and watched the cute kids.
Saturday morning, I took this cute girl for a haircut:
Such a cutie pie!
Then I headed to a Blogger’s Potluck hosted by Janetha at Meals and Moves. It was really a great time! I’ve got a separate blog post coming this week with all the details of the get together! It was really a great time and so fun to meet some awesome bloggers "in real life".
The Blogger’s Potluck was held at Liberty Park which is just a few blogs away from Salt Lake Running Company, and I am really in need of new running shoes. I hadn’t been fitted for shoes in years, and I know Salt Lake Running Company does a great job, so I decided to head in there after the potluck.
After a quick run on the treadmill so asses my “running gait”, it was determined I have a pretty neutral stride. I tried on several different types of shoes (Nike, Brooks, Mizuno, New Balance and Saucony). After running on the treadmill with several styles, I walked out of the store with these girls:
They are the Kinvara 3. So light and they feel great on my feet! Love it!
On Saturday night I got together with some Zumba friends at my FAVORITE restaurant The Dodo. Seriously, the best food!
We had a great time!
On Sunday, I made a quick trip to Costco for a few items and then Madison and I hit up the pool. It was sooo hot, but we had a great time. After the pool, Madi stayed to do her laundry and have dinner with us, and Tyson was home from work, so it worked out great! We made the BEST PIZZA EVAH! and called it good! Poor Carl and Tyson had to work most of the weekend, so they didn't get to have too much fun!
Oh, and then we had dessert – milkshakes from In ‘N Out! It’s become a Sunday night tradition that I really need to stop!
How was your weekend? What did you do for fun? Leave me a comment and let me know!
TLC’s new show Craft Wars, hosted by Tori Spelling aired this week. Did you watch? Being the crafty crafter than I am, it was a no-brainer for me! Of course I watched!
After seeing all the promo’s for the show the last few weeks, I also noticed some familiar faces of bloggers I stalk follow. Christy Tomlinson, Becky @ Infarrrantly Creative, Brooke @ All Things Thrifty, and Mandi @ Vintage Revivals to name only a few! I was pretty excited to see what the show was about.
Well, it was pretty good!
The show starts out with three crafters competing in a one hour Pop Challenge. Two contestants then move on to the five hour Master Challenge. In the Master Challenge, the two crafters (Christy Tomlinson and Cheryl Burchett) were challenged to build playhouses.
This is Cheryl’s Playhouse:
And this is Christy’s playhouse:
They were both pretty amazing! I can't imagine the pressure of coming up with a design, and putting it all together in just 5 hours! My heart was with Christy, mostly because I’ve stalked her for years and years, being a scrapbooker and all! But, Cheryl ended up being the winner and taking home a cool $10,000! Her playhouse had so many fun details! It was reallyl creative!
All in all, I thought it was a fun show, and I can’t wait to see future episodes.
Does anyone else think it’s so weird that Donna Martin is a crafter? I love it!
TGIF friends!
What are your plans for the weekend? I hope it’s something fun!
On Sunday afternoon, Madison and I decided to head downtown to the Utah Arts Festival with my good friend Millie. It was super hot and windy, but we had a blast! First stop:
A glass of chardy, of course!
There were so many fun vendors and such great art!
We didn’t stay and listen to any of the entertainment (the band playing on the main stage was, um, not really my taste, but there was a great crowd listening), or sample any of the food. Which was actually lame of us. Carl and Tyson were home and I had already made plans to make Turkey Meatloaf so we didn’t eat anything. Well, except the Chardy. And if you know me at all, you know that was fine by me!
We really did have a blast, and I can’t wait to go back again next year!
As usual, my weekend begins the moment I am done with work at 4:30 pm on Friday! Right after work, I hit up GPP for THIS Leg Shredder workout.
Oh my.
My legs were officially shredded.
I took my first official ice bath when I got home. It was much needed!
I woke up Saturday morning, feeling a little under the weather. Second weekend in a row. Carl thinks it is a combination of too many workouts and lack of sleep during the week.
Definitely a possibility.
We had plans to get together with our tailgating group Saturday night, to go over the fall schedule of football games, plan fun tailgating themes and stuff like. Really, it was just an excuse to get together!
I volunteered to make a pasta salad and bring an appetizer. The appetizer I chose, was this one:
One of the items on my 2012 Summer Bucket List was to perfect the art of making iced coffee. My friend Christina has a great recipe for making iced coffee, which I really want to try. But, in the meantime, I decied to just go easy-peasy and do the following:
Brew a pot of coffee (sorry for blurry, crappy cell phone pics)
Place the pot of coffe directly in the fridge to chill
Poor over ice, add your favorite flavored creamer, and stir.
How easy is that? LOL!
I still need to try Christina's recipe, but until I do….this has been working wonderfully!
