Valentines Day Mantle

Crafts / Decorating / Our House

I got the Valentines Day decorations up from the basement yesterday, and starting thinking about decorating a bit.  I started with the mantle.  It still needs some tweaking, and let's pretend my walls aren't green, mkay?  I'm over the green and need to paint! 🙂

Master Bath remodel sneak peak!

Decorating / Our House

Our house has been in a bit of a mess the last month, since the great flood of 2010.  The hubby and I have been in a quandary trying to figure out which room to begin working on first….the family room, or the master bath.  We hit Home Depot last Friday night to look for trim, to frame out the windows in the family room (the drywall was removed due to the flood), but got side tracked looking at moulding to frame out the builder grade mirror in our master bath.  I saw this post from Kate @ Centsational Girl a few days prior and I knew that was exactly what I wanted to do to my mirror and vanity.  So we tackled it on Saturday morning.  And I LOVE it!  Still soooooo much to do in the bathroom, but here is a sneak peak at the mirror and vanity.

Rule #1…no judging me!  We are in the midst of the remodel, so things are a bit messy and the former decor is a bit unlovely!  🙂

I LOVE the paint color and how rich and creamy it looks in person.  The paint I used is  is Valspar’s latex ‘Betsy Ross House Brown’ #6011-2 in the soft gloss Kitchen & Bath formula.  It is a dark espresso brown.  Love it!  And I followed Kate's directions on applying the paint, etc. and it worked out beautifully.  No brush marks at all!

We purchased a new light fixture on Sunday and also a new faucet for the sink.  I will be painting this weekend, and then we will lay the tile.  Hopefully, we can check this project off our LARGE To-Do list in a few weeks!  Thanks for looking!  I'd love to know what you think!

Valentines Day Cupcake Liner Wreath

Crafts / Decorating

After I saw this post from Jen at Tatertots and Jello I knew I wanted to try my hand at a cupcake liner wreath.  I picked up some cupcake liners at Michael's for $1.99 and found a wreath at the dollar store.  All I needed to do was heat up my trusty old glue gun and go to town!  Easy Peasy!

Here it is all completed!  I actually did this at the kitchen counter while I was cooking dinner on Monday night. Only took about 30-40 minutes. And so CUTE!

I love it!  Can't wait to get some more v~day crafts going!

Oh, and one more thing.  Here is my dining room table tonight!

I spy:

  • My FREAKING AWESOME sewing machine! (Thanks Carl!)
  • Valentines Day Dish Towels that I have been sewing for my Etsy shop
  • Coffee Cozies that I have also been sewing for my Etsy shop
  • Fabric, Fabric and more Fabric!
  • Buttons and various embellishments
  • The all important glass of Chardonnay – for creative purposes, you know!

I suppose I should clean it all up, but I see a weekend of sewing and crafting in my future.  Might as well leave it all out!  Just keepin' it real friends!

New pillows for the New Year!

Crafts / Decorating / Sewing

I had big plans for today.  Big plans.  It's New Year's Day…….the day I like to take down the xmas decorations.  But, I love having the house decorated for xmas.  Love it.  Love the lights througout my house.  It feels festive.  So, I didn't take anything down.  Stayed in my jammies all day.  Watched football.  Puttered around. Cooked a bit.  Spent time with my fam.  It was all good.  Decided to make some new pillows for my couch.  New pillows for the New Year.  Sure, sounds like a plan.  :)  I was wandering the ailes of Tar-jay the other night….not looking for anything in particular.  Just looking.  Waiting for something to catch my eye.  Checked out the place mats…..and what do you know?  They caught my eye.  A few of them:

I loved the colors.  Threw 4 of them into my cart.  Took a trip down the christmas sale aisle.  Saw this:

Glimmer snow?  75% off?  Like a buck a bag?  Bought 5 bags, to stuff 4 place mats to use as decorative pillows.  Brilliant, right?  I didn't really pay attention to the word "Glimmer" on the package.  This is what my floor looked like after stuffing 1/2 of a pillow:

Glimmer everywhere!  Nice!  Oh well, carry on, right!?!?!?

Finished pillow:

Lub it!  A new look for the New Year!  I finished two, and will finish the other two tomorrow.  More pics then!  In the meantime…..Happy New Year!  Wishing you all the best for a happy, healthy, and productive 2011!

DIY Sunday

Christmas / Crafts / Decorating / Sewing

Christmas came early for me!  Carl picked up the exact sewing machine that I wanted (which he saw on my blog!) for me today!  I have been making some pillow covers for the pillows on our couch, and I was using hem tape….which worked, but wasn't fabulous!  So after he picked up my sewing maching (BOO-YA!), I went to work and covered 5 large pillows, made 2 placemat pillows and make a long oblong pillow.  The photos are crap (per usual) and don't really show was a difference the pillows make.  BUT, I'm giddy to have those F U G L Y pillows covered!
